    Do Acad 06 and 07 really have different dim text options
    (see below examples), or is there some setting that
    controls whether or not you can enter Dim Text without
    typing the "t" option?

    DIFFERENT DIM TEXT OPTIONS:

    ==============================================
    Standard (or regular) AutoCad 2007

    AUTOMATICALLY LETS YOU TYPE DIM IF YOU WISH
    (in the example, I typed "xxxxx")

    Command: _dimlinear
    Specify first extension line origin or <select object>:
    Specify second extension line origin:
    Specify dimension line location or
    [Mtext/Text/Angle/Horizontal/Vertical/Rotated]:
    Enter dimension text <2.330>: xxxxx
    =============================================
    Standard (or regular) AutoCad 2006

    YOU HAVE TO TYPE "T" IN ORDER TO TYPE DIM

    Command: _dimlinear
    Specify first extension line origin or <select object>:
    Specify second extension line origin: <Ortho on>
    Non-associative dimension created.
    Specify dimension line location or
    [Mtext/Text/Angle/Horizontal/Vertical/Rotated]:
    Dimension text = 11.5126
