What setting controls the distance of a dimension extension line from a
    center mark?

    TIA

  2. There are 2 things at work here & the first sort of addresses your question.
You can set the distance for a dimension extension line gap at
Detailing/Extension Lines/Gap. This is the global setting for dimensions
and so also includes a distance away from a centermark. Then you can also
make the centermark extend out farther, if you wish, by changing
    Detailing/Centermarks/Size.

Keep in mind that you can always drag the ends of the dimensions to suit,
and you can change each centermark individually with the property manager.

    Wayne,

Your suggestion does not work. I have my extension line gap set to .060".
When I export a SW's drawing to ACAD and open it, I can add a dimension to
this gap and it checks at .152".

  4. What does it do in SW? If the issue is after a conversion to ACAD, I think
all bets are off, as stuff sometimes moves all over the place and no way to
control it that I have found.

In SW's, with the extension gap set to "zero", there is still a large gap
between the extension line and endpoint of the center mark. Dim's that are
attached to model geometry move according to the gap setting.

  6. Make sure you aren't seeing the gap found in the centerlines themselves.
Try dragging the dim endpoint off the centermark end and see if there is
still a little piece of the centermark left there.

Anyone else seeing this problem With SW04 SP1? Seems to me SW's is creating
the gap from the extended center line even when this option is unselected
    for center mark type.

This has been a problem since the new centermark tool was introduced at some
point in SW'03. I logged this with my VAR way back then. But nothing has
    been done about it since.

A workaround to this problem is to do this. When selecting entities for
dimensioning, instead of selecting the centermark, select the edge of the
hole instead. This will make the gap better.

    Hope this helps,
