Derived configurations

Need a quick answer...Why doesn't my derived configuration of a sub
assy show the part number in the BOM? The row is there but all that
is filled in is the qty for a assy configuration which is also a
derived configuration. I really debated using derived configurations
just because I have never used them before. It seem like the logical
thing to do in this case. Oh and I do not have the box checked that
says "Don't show child components in BOM when used as subiassembly"

    part - configuration- derived configuration
sub-assembly - derived configuration using the part derived
    configuration
assembly - derived configuration using the derived configuration of
    the sub assembly

Not very visual but this is basically what I'm trying to do. Bad
    idea?

    Thanks,

    Look at your options.
    SW BOM or Excel BOM?

I regularly get part numbers not showing up in the BOM - sometimes I even
get a load of completely blank lines.

Doing a CTRL-Q usually fixes it.
