Depth of field blur trick, surface modeling tutorial

  1. Pretty cool 'depth of field blur' trick for use with PhotoWorks. The steps
for the trick are towards the bottom:
http://makeashorterlink.com/?V28F25D7A . Thanks to Thomas Parel for
pointing it out! I like it because it ought to be accurate, unlike the
manual image adjsutements that we have done with PhotoShop to fake in a
depth of field blur based on our best guess.

Also, an interesting and very well composed surface modeling tutorial for
    SolidWorks:

Editorial aside: we typically don't use depth of field blur because it has
become a cliche' in renderings (and is not evident in most quality product
photography, the willimas sonoma catalog not withstanding). It has become
like lens flare a few years ago... it is an almost sure-fire tip-off that it
is a computer rendered product. Depth of field blur DOES have some valid
compositional uses to direct the eye to something important, but it needs to
be used carefully, deliberatley, and, perhaps, rarely.

  2. What the heck????... I have no idea why there was an attachment to my
original post (dot.gif). It was the first time I has ever used make a
shorter link, but I cannot imagiine that was the cause. Please forgive me
for the attachment - I am totally at a loss for how it happened
