Okay, I understand that autocad version 2000 and above embed the print configuration in each DWG file. The net of this is, when you send your drawing to a manufacturer, and that manufacturer opens your drawing and tries to print it, autocad tries to print with the originally embedded printer information, when the printer cannot be found, autocad defaults to <NONE>. From my reading this has caused more than just a little frustration for a fairly large number of users. I've read different ways of working around this issue, each of them basically saying create a new drawing, either by xref'ing the original drawing into a local template, or using PAGESETUP on each Model and layout tab, and saving that. So, now I have three questions; 1.) WHY did anyone think embedding the print / plot info in the drawing was a good idea? Wasn't that what plotter configuration files were for? There may be a good reason, I just don't see it. 2.) We run version 2002, both Mechanical and lite. It's time to upgrade to 2004, please tell me that this wonderful "feature" went away, or at least will let you set some type of system override to allow using YOUR default printer, rather than some locally-non-existant printer. This would be a reasonable solution, I think. 3.) HAS any way been found to automatically override the embedded printer info? Sorry, I realize this sound like a rant, I guess it is. We're a manufacturer, and receive multiple drawings from five or six different engineering groups a day. Dealing with this creates additional overhead we don't really need. Thanks, Brian
