Does anyone know how to control the default feature tree width (the
width that it "snaps" to while manually adjusting)?

You can set it in your templates and it should be the same each time
you start a new document. If you want to snap it back to some default
location, you can create a macro that sizes the FM. There are some
available that can be used as examples on how to do this. Hunt around
http://sw.fcsuper.com and http://www.lennyworks.com and their web
    links.
