I need to create a custom symbol that I can add to an note, I need
two concentric circles with the inner circle hatched solid. Can anyone
explain to me how to create this symbol? I tried searching the windows
character map but was unable to find anything that would work.

I have found how to add custom symbols to the Gtol.sym file but do not
    know how to add hatching.

    Thanks

  2. If you don't get a good answer from someone who really knows what they are
doing, here is the brain-dead approach I use. Write your note, leaving space
for the symbol. Make the symbol. Drag it into the right location with the
note. Make a block out of the note and the symbol. Now you can drag the
block around to put the note where you want it.

    Hey Sam,
I would stay away from custom symbols or those defined by the
"gtol.sym" file. The reason is simple, SolidWorks does not or cannot
or will not provide a "File Location" for this file like it does for
most others. Because of this, the file must be given to anyone in your
company to reside on their personal computer in order to be
interpreted & displayed properly in drawings.
Blocks would be better alternative or if you can live with a
character from another font set, then take a look the "wingding" font.
There is a charcater that is close. There is another one in the
wingding2 font but it does not work in SolidWorks.

I thought about the same thing with the gtol file. What we are
trying to do is use a block file (two concentric circles with the
center hatched solid) and then also show that symbol in a note field
to explain what that symbol means. The block will be placed in various
places within one drawing view per drawing and potentially on hundreds
of drawings, at least eventually anyway.

I would like to propose that maybe we use a different symbol, one that
is already available in solidworks but this company that I am
currently working for is crazy with their customized drafting
environment and I highly doubt they will want to deviate. It may only
be a coincidence but every company I have worked for that is
converting from acad to solidworks really gets hung up on trying to
copy their "exact" drafting standards to the solidworks environment.
It usually does not translate very well.

Thanks for your feedback, I will double check the wingdings fonts. I
think I saw the symbol you were mentioning, looks more like the letter
    O rather than a circle.
