We're having trouble creating PDF's bigger than 11x17 -- the Distiller is both a system printer and a PC3, and I can't figure out how to add custom page sizes. In the PC3 under custom page sizes, it says "For unavailable controls, see custom properties". The custom properties has an advanced option where you can select one Post Script custom page size, but you can't rename it or add more...am i missing something somewhere? Thanks, Kate
I can't set the paper size -- I only have through 11x17 available, and I can't find where to add a custom size...
Thanks, Dean, but what I was looking for was to be able to define paper sizes with names like 24x36, 30x42, etc. -- this just lets you change the size of one paper, and doesn't change the name to let you know what size you changed it to. We don't do PDF's all that often, so we should be able to deal with it; I'd just hoped there was a way to add multiple custom paper sizes like you can with other plotters. Thanks for your help, though.
Yeah, it would -- it's just frustrating that you can't change the "PostScript Custom Page Size" to read something different for each custom size.
Yes, but for my other plotters, I can create as many non-standard page sizes as I need, give them names, and save them for later use. I understand now that you can't do that with Distiller.
Yes, it's the same deal -- one customizable but pre-named page size option. Really, we hardly ever make PDF's -- I'm willing to live with the limitations, so unless somebody else wants to pick this up, I think we can move on to other (solvable) problems.
Kate, To add "custom" paper sizes to any windows printer, in XP Pro, follow this procedure; 1.. Start the "Printer and Faxes" control panel (do not highlight a printer) 2.. go to "File-Server Properties" 3.. Click the "Forms Tab" 4.. Check the "Create New Form" box 5.. Enter a name example "24" x 36 Arch D Landscape" 6.. Enter the paper size, example Width=36" Height=24" Margins=0 7.. Save the Form Now when you select your distiller printer "24" x 36 Arch D Landscape" will be one of the standard sizes. The draw back to this process is that every workstation that uses distiller and ACAD will need to have this procedure completed with the FORMS name exactly the same. Our I guy did this with a script of some sort but we have added form since then by emailing the instruction. I originally found this tip on Adobe's site, they had produced a how to use distiller in AutoCAD manual. I tried to find the link but no luck. This also assumes that you are using distiller 5 as I haven't upgraded to 6. Good luck. -- Brent Erickson, P.E. EGR & Associates, Inc 2535 Prairie Road Eugene, OR 97404 541-688-8322
Brent, That's awesome!! Thanks so much. Only a couple people plot around here, so the individual installation isn't a big deal. I was afraid it would show up on other system plotters and confuse things, but it doesn't seem to. Thanks again!!
