if i create a drawing with custom linetypes or hatches, and send the drawing
to someone else, they don't need the pat or lin file right? For some reason,
I'm drawing (pardon the pun) a blank...

No you don't, they become part of the drawing.

They would only need the pat file if they needed to alter your drawing.

  4. Or if it's a complex linetype, i.e. one defined by a .shx file. Then they
would need that .shx file. We had that problem when I came over here and I
have since done away with it because the client always called asking why it
was telling him it couldn't find suchandsuch.shx.

....and for another suggestion --- use eTransmit to send the drawings and
all needed files will be scooped up for you automatically into a ZIP or
    EXE file.
