Crosshair doesn't move smoothly

Discussion in 'AutoCAD' started by John Georgiev, May 28, 2004.

  1. I posted this question in the general AutoCAD group a while ago, but didn't
got a solution. Maybe here somebody will know something.

One of my AutoCAD stations has strange behavior - when OSNAP and SNAP are
OFF the crosshair is still "jumpy" even that the interval between the
snaps is very small. I checked all settings in Options and they matching the
setting on my computer (where in the same conditions the crosshair moves
    smoothly). Also I checked some
variables, but they are matching too. Only difference is that this station
running Land Desktop, mine is plain AutoCAD. Anybody to have an idea where
    the problem is?
    Thanks.

You might want to 'swap' the mouse, and try it.
Could be mouse driver / dirty mouse ?

  3. I will try Bob, but I don't think so - it is doing it on exact intervals -
there is something like invisible pattern or grid (yes, GRIDS are OFF). For
example if you have several parallel lines and moving slowly the crosshair
over them, the crosshair line matching some (you know - visually it changes
the color) but some you cannot match even if you zoom as much as you can -
crosshair line just jump over it on the other side of the line. Very
strange. The reason for pushing this is because sometime we need to draw by
free hand and this is becoming a problem.
    Well, also the curiosity ;o))

Is 'snap' OFF ?, if so, try increasing the screen resolution..could be a video driver / resolution problem.
If you have snap off, zoomed in, and you cannot slowly move
the cursor to align with a given line, then I don't have a clue.

  5. Me too.. But you got the picture right. SNAP is OFF as I mentioned in the
beginning post. All hardware configuration and settings (including screen
resolution) are the same as on my computer, but I don't have this problem.
    Thanks anyway.

  6. With AutoCAD closed and not running, is the cursor also jumping when you
    move the mouse????
If so, it is probably a hardware or driver problem.
If the cursor is smooth moving when you are up in the AutoCAD Menu area
(crosshairs not visible) and then jumpy when you move the mouse cursor into
the drawing area, then is an AutoCAD setting.

If you have a 'screen' saver, you may want to turn it off..
Also, when zoomed in quite far, on my AutoCAD 2002, with many parallel lines / inserted on snap, arrayed, I cannot make the cursor line-up with every one. Sometimes, I need to pan down or up a bit, to get the lines to line-up with the picsels.

Since he hasn't refuted the use of a "mouse", we can assume that he isn't
using a tablet. What brought that to mind is back when tablets were
popular, if they were placed too close to the monitor the crosshairs
    exhibited similar behavior.

He hasn't said whether the mouse was corded or wireless. If a wireless
mouse receiver is too close (within 8") of an electrical/electronic
component, we are warned that erratic behavior may result.

In a normal Windows environment one might not notice the small
irregularities that they would on the AutoCAD screen while attempting to
    define a point freehand.

    Just thoughts .............
