Creatomg a 3d Model from data Points

Discussion in 'SolidWorks' started by thatolchestnut, Jun 11, 2008.

  1. Hello,

Im trying to create a 3d model from a series of 2d contour data. I
have each contour as a set of XYZ coordinates, and I want to import
those coordinates into solidworks to build a model. I tried to use the
curve from XYZ points method, but it seems Im unable to extrude that.

I might just be missing something too heh...

    -Thanks

  2. Your curve is 3D. Project your curve on a sketch ("convert entity"),
    then you can extrude it.
I made a macro some time ago to handle multiple curves a once. If you
e-mail me your data, I'll check it works with it and send you the
    macro.

This is possible to do in SW. after your curves are imported into SW,
click New 3D sketch and convert thier entities into 3D sketch entities
using "Convert Entities" tool. You can then extrude them as surfaces
or solid profiles. Please check out 2009 for the import of multiple
    curves issue.

This capability was introduced with SW2004.
