creation of super pcell using 2 pcells

Discussion in 'Cadence' started by Pradeep Kumar Chawda, May 27, 2006.

  1. Hi,

Is it possible to create a super pcell by placing the pcells. For
example i have a two mos pcells and i need to create a single pcell
using these two. I kept the cdf and pcell code identical as in the
original single pcell. In the pcell procedures i placed the two pcells.
It creates a super pcell. When i pass a parameter the cadence crashes.

    Thanks
    Pradeep

there is no conceptual problem with placing pcells inside pcells. it
    is actually
a very powerful feature of cdb. I do this all the time by placing
contact pcells inside other mos/res/inductor pcells etc. The approach
can make pcells more performant that having to draw contacts with
    rod fill functions.

there is however a restriction that you cannot place a pcell
inside itself, even if the masters are different. this is either a bug
or a feature of dfII depending on who you believe; however, it
    is true nevertheless.

If you place cell A inside cell B and you also place cell B inside
cell A some older versions of the framework would segmentation fault.
however, i think this problem is fixed now.

  4. Hi,

CDF is component description file/format. It consists of all the
parameters of the component which you see while placing an instance in
schematic/layout. These are the pcells. The CDF parameters are used in
    creating pcells.
