create 2D template (for physical model) from 3D Autocad model

I have built a 3D model in AutoCad of a conical shaped roof with a flat top.

I would like to create a drawing of pattern pieces from the 3D model so I can build a physical paper model.

(Yes I know, it seems ridiculous to build a paper model if I've already got a 3D computer model, but some clients just respond better to a model they can hold in their own two hands...)

Did it once or twice. There might be other ways but this is what I did. Copy
the faces of the solid using solidedit>face>copy off to the side of you
model then rotate all the face flat to the xy plane. Not hard but time
consuming if the model is complex.
