copy layout to new drawings?

Discussion in 'AutoCAD' started by Scott C. Parker, Feb 7, 2004.

  1. Is there another way of copying a layout from one drawing to another
    without going the template avenue?
    Thanks, Scott

  3. I'm sorry!? Perhaps I should have been more specific. I'm looking for a
    method of copying the PRINT-PLOT layouts from one drawing to another.
    You know, all those settings to PRINT-PLOT a drawing using a PRINTer or
    a PLOTter.
    Thanks for your suggestion. I tried Edit --> copy but it only copied the
    view port frames. It left out the model space information for each view
    port as well as paper size.

    Scott,

    You will probably get moved to a different group, but in the meantime:

    Layouts can also be loaded by opening the Design Center and going to a
    drawing that has the layouts you want to copy. Then just drag the desired
    layout into your drawing.

    Is that something you are looking for?

  5. Thanks Jack.
    Your suggestion is exactly what I needed to PRINT my various drawings
    using layouts from other drawings.
    As for being moved to different group: not sure why as this question
    deals directly with a printing process. I would assume that AutoDesk
    created these forums to educate users in the vast powers of the
    software. This user (me) had no idea to look in the design center for
    something having to do with printing. Now I know. I'll go look for a
    group named: layout questions. ;->

    Right click on the layout tab, select From template..., set "files of type "
    to .dwg and then browse to *ANY* drawing which has a layout you would like
    in the current drawing.
