how do I open the autosaved drawing file? I tried to rename it as >dwg &
still ACAD doesn't see it as a valid file.

    TIA

  2. goto your explorer options and set the file name extensions to be visible.
    Now try it again.

That's because *.AC$ files are *not* AutoSave files. They are temporary
files written by AutoCAD for its own purposes. AutoSave files carry the SV$
    extension.

  4. Ignore my replay. Paul is right. I didn't read the subject carefully (AC$),
but only the text of your question..
    Sorry.

  6. If you mean with "one of those" a .sv$ file, then read my first replay. Be
sure you can see the file extensions, then replace the sv$ with dwg and you
should be able to open this file.

Most *.ac$ files aren't in a format that can be opened by AutoCAD. They're
simply 'scratchpads' for the various processes used by the main program; so
chances are, you won't be able to open them at all with AutoCAD. The only
legitimate backup files are *.bak and *.sv$ files, both of which can be
opened after renaming them to *.dwg. And as Juergen points out, be sure you
have Windows set up to display all file extensions; otherwise you'll end up
with something like "MyDrawing.dwg.bak" or "AnotherDrawing.dwg.sv$", which
    still won't open in AutoCAD.
