I need to calibrate the output colors of an HP Designjet 500 plotter (it is
not a postscript plotter) to match the display on a Viewsonic LCD monitor.
So far I have not been able to find any information as to whether an ICC
file exists for this plotter or whether it can be calibrated at all.

Is there any software out there that will allow me to create a color profile
    for this plotter?

    Hi Neil....

I have the same plotter (Purchased in Dec.2003)
The problem I have is the color blue (all Shades) come out purple.
This IS a know problem (As you can read on the HP NG`s)
I`ve been working with HP Techs now for over a month. We`ve tried
ALL the latest drivers no help. All the settings in the HP-500 driver
    Properties, no help......
The latest attempts have been installing new Beta version Firmware
(We`ve tried 2 new versions) for the plotter. All this did was to make
    the purple a slight-bit lighter....but still purple, but now I notice 1/4"
    banding
thru the purple......So at this point I don`t recommend this option....I
    haven`t
seen any other problem with the Beta firmware.
The HP tech I`ve been working with has been great on stepping me thru all
the things we`ve tried. I just don`t understand why it`s taking so long for
    them
to solve this problem. The plotter has been around for a few years now.
I`ll be talking to the tech again this week to see what the next step will
    be.....
    I`ll keep this NG informed.

We had a defective ink feed system that caused magenta ink to leak during
plots. It was actually dripping onto the platten. HP sent a rep out to
replace the system. It seemed apparent to me after the incident that it was
a common problem with these plotters. While you may not have ink dripping
out, there may be a related problem with your system which is causing a
magenta color bias. You might inquire with your support techs about it.

    Hey Neil.....
What did it do when you printed just black?
I see no evidence of any magenta then.
I`am open to anything at this point.....
Especially when its still under warranty !
