I've down loaded the service pack 0.1 to 1.1 and ran the service pack. I've
inserted SW CD1 and it keeps telling me it can't access
E:\swwi\data\English_i386_Solidworks.Msi. I've browsed for it and selected
this file from CD1 but it keeps giving me the same error.

i tired coping the file to my c:\ but still can't access it. i've also tried
using another set of SW2005 cds and the same thing occurs, so it can't be
the files being corrupt. any other suggestions?

You may need a patch from Microsoft. There is an issue with installing
more that 3 SW service packs on a windows xp machine. Did you install
a beta service pack from SW. If you have the error message it should
give you a link to solve the problem. I had to call microsoft and give
them the error and they e-mailed me a link to download the patch. Hope
    this helps-

  4. I had the exact same problem! I never got the service pack installed.
    And..........when I went to 'Add/Remove Programs', I couldn't uninstall
Solidworks either. It said something about a missing resource '.dll' file. I
couldn't fix or repair it either. I ended up deleting all the files on my
hard drive and then I had the tedious task of cleaning out the registry.
Luckily, I have jv16-registry tool and it made the job very easy.

Instead of trying to install SP0.0 again and try applying the the latest SP,
I used a set of CD's I just got for another seat of Solidworks we got. The
CD's have SP1.1 on them already! That was nice, it installed without a hitch
and now everything is working just fine.

Did you download 0.0 from SW or load it from CD? Are the CDs you have
the same as the ones you are using now?

Did you try to copy on another computer? If this works, your CD drive is
    broken.
