Can this be done - and how

During upgrading from R2004 to R2005 I would like users to access a license for either product, however I do not want to exceed the number of licenses I own. For example, if I own 50 licenses I would like for the first 50 users (but no more) to access a license regardless of whether they are running R2004 or R2005. Currently, having both the R2004 and R2005 licenses being served it is possible for 100 users to obtain licenses - 50 R2004 and 50 R2005.

If this is possible (to automatically limit the number of users, regardless of platform) - how is it done? I have seen reference to this, but no actual instructions.

    Thanks;
    Nick

I don't believe Autodesk sells licenses this way, so this isn't just a
technical problem (correct me if I'm wrong). Technically, I don't think
it's possible: each product (2004 & 2005) pulls just a license for its own
    product.

What you're asking for is reasonable; I just don't think it's available yet.

Depending on your situation, if you purchased 50 seats of 2004 and then
upgraded all of them to 2005, you might be able to use 50 seats of both
products for some limited time period (check with your reseller). In that
case, you'd just combine the two license files.

  3. The situation Nick described is VERY possible for subscription customers.
Now that we're allowed to use older versions, there's nothing (technically,
not ethically) to stop a company from using basically twice their license
    allocation.

To be honest Nick, I just don't think they're very concerned with what
you're looking at. The company that's on subscription is generally an honest
one, and likes to stay up to date. Most firms like that would have a low
employee threshold for being the one or two guys stuck pulling the old
    version for very long.

Does that make sense? One more thought, as you add seats, they'll come in at
the current version anyway, so it's not like you could double up forever.

What I was referring to was the ability to pull either 2004 or 2005
licenses, up to a maximum of 50, which is my understanding of the question.
Of course they can use twice their allocation. But it does make some kind
of sense that if you have an unused 2005 seat, someone should be able to use
it to run a seat of 2004.
