Can R14 work with a USB port?

Hi. I'm trying to set up a plotter to work with an R14 version of
AuotCAD. The system is Windows 98, and the connection between the
plotter and the computer is a USB cable. When I select
Tools->Preferences->Printer, select this plotter, click on
Modify...->Reconfigure, and eventually get to the question "Specify
port", the choices are Serial, Parallel, or Network; there's no
USB choice. Is there any way to configure AutoCAD R14 to work with
    this set-up?

FWIW, the plotter is an HP DesignJet 500 42 + HPGL2 card.

    Thanks!

Don't know the specifics of your Plotter, but... Check HP for Windows
drivers for the device. 98 SE supports USB. The other guy must be thinking
of Windows 95 that had the service pack (may it rest in pieces).
