Can AutoCad 2002,4 pull a 2005 license?

  1. Can AutoCad 2002,4 pull a 2005 license?

We can do this with unigraphics on FlexLM. The last 5 versions can all pull
newer licenses, just not older ones. So, if I do not have maintenance, I can
not use a newer version, But if I do, I can still use up to 5 versions back
    with the same license file.

Does Autodesk to this? If not, why?; I would still be only using the
license count that the server imposes.
I have seen some references here to combining old and new license files, but
that sounds illegal as it would double your license count.

Note: I understand that it was not available with ADLM, not from 200i to
2002 as the license engine changed, but I know FlexLM can allow this.

    Please advise.

  2. Autodesk doesn't support this feature but if we propose it to them they
might add this functionality. If you are on Autodesk Subscription you can
now use older versions as well as long as you don't override the total
number of licenses you have in your contract.

This is not a feature of FLEXlm itself; it depends on how the software
publisher configures FLEXlm to manage licenses. The product would have to
be changed as well (2002 doesn't know what the increment name for 2005 is).
But it's an interesting idea to switch to a kind of "credit" system, where
instead of a number of seats of specific licenses for specific products, you
would purchase so many credits, to use as you wish. It might take 2
credits to run one seat of LT, 200 to run AutoCAD, etc. Imagine the changes
in the accounting systems this would require!

    Hi Steven,

it is absolutely legal to combine all licenses you have (2002, 2004, 2005)
in one license file and use all three products from the same Network License
    Manager.
After you combine your licenses in one, FLEXlm is smart enough to now how
many seats each product has and you'll still have the same exactly count of
    seats for each product.

    Hope it helps.
