  2. I must be missing something here as I am picturing a cam like what would be
    on an engine camshaft. So, open a sketch, sketch the profile, and extrude
    as a solid. What am I missing?

  3. Are you looking for software to generate the actual profile - in other words
    are you looking for the equations for the profiles

    Why Not use Toolbox's cam creation tool? You will find it under the
    dropdown menu Toolbox --> Cams

    if you like retrocomputing, download this old cam-program for apple IIe
    http://www.turci.biz/download/camme_formato_libero.dsk

    (see http://www.zophar.net/apple2.html for apple IIe emulator)

    if you like old books, download the good, historical and humorous book
    C. H. Moon, Cam design, a manual for engineers designers and draftsmen, AMCAM, 1961
    form http://www.camcoindex.com/indFAQ.htm

    Use wrap sketch.

    Use sheetmetal.

    To get the curves into the sketch use your curve through xyz points
    and generate points in Xcel.
