Calculate sheets required for given drawings???

    Hi,
    I am new to this site so plz let me know if the group is improper.
    I have a friend of mine for whom I have created machine part drawings. He uses metal sheet for the parts. For some days he has been asking me if I can give him a software which will decide the no of sheets required for given drawings. We have different .dwg files for each part.
    I am a vb developer by profession.
    Please give me suggestion whether this is possible with combination of VB and autocad 2000 or i need to use auto lisp.
