    hi all!!!

this may seems little bit ridiculus to you...i am interested in
knowing how modeling was done in acad whene mouse driven programming
    was not developed..???
i have started learing solid modeling recently and in my wildest dream
also i can't imagine modeling being done without mouse....but i know
    there were such days..
can someone share his experience about old cad days without mouse..???

Just for fun, I used to demonstrate that AutoCAD could be used without
    mouse, digitiser or light pen,
[Insert] was pen down, [Delete] was Pen up. [Page up] multiplied the
cursor movement by 10 on first use and by 100 on second use (like a
video unit with 2-speed fast forward). [Page down] reversed [Page up].
I wouldn't want to do it that way for work though.

When I first got into AutoCAD in the mid '80's, you could get a mouse
but they were expensive and not that good. Digitisers were the go, only
ours took 3 months to arrive. We used AutoCAD for that time using the
keyboard only (arrow keys and keyboard entry of commands and options).
In some ways it was a good experience because if I now get stuck I can
use even the latest version of AutoCAD this way. By the way, in those
days the dealer actually came out and installed and configured AutoCAD
for you, even though it was just a matter of copying the floppy disks
onto the hard disk - all at no additional charge.

Back in the early days before the object snap feature was introduced
(thinking back to the AutoCAD v1.4), snap was frequently used to accurately
control cursor movement and, if i recall correctly, the arrow keys could be
used to jump from snap increment to snap increment. Also, xy coordinates
could always be entered directly at the keyboard. I thought the lengthy
regenerations for every zoom was frustrating, I sure wouldn't have wanted to
    work without a mouse.

Your first AutoCAD system had a hard drive? Lucky you <grin>....mine was an
IBM XT, no math-coprocessor, with 2 floppy drives. If you deleted the help
file from the AutoCAD program disk, you could free up enough space to make
it a boot disk. I do remember losing work when forgetting that one of the
Block library disks was in the drive B rather than the disk my drawing was
using. Oops....guess it goes a little quicker the second time ya draw it
    <shrug>.
