the office I work in has about 12 acad licenses... I think about half of
those would get along just fine with an LT version.. does it interface with
CAM / DXF. Those guys are 2D users . any idea what kind of issues or costs
might be involved with switching them.

do LT files & 2004 or 2000i files work w/ each?

    TIA

DWG files are pretty much interchangeable between LT and full AutoCAD. LT
can even *manipulate* objects in AutoCAD files that it can't *create* ...
i.e., if you create a non-rectangular viewport in full AutoCAD, you can open
the drawing in LT and modify the viewport, even though you can't create a
    new non-rectangular viewport in LT.

Other than lack of 3D modeling capability, the biggest drawback of LT is its
lack of advanced customization tools, like LISP, ARX and VBA programming.
However, there is at least one LISP enabler available (from
http://www.drcauto.com) if LISP customization is an issue.

LT *can* create DXF files in the same manner as full AutoCAD, if that's what
you mean by "interfacing" with CAM/DXF.

Since a seat of LT is about the same price as a two-level upgrade of full
AutoCAD, it might be worth a try the next time your upgrade cycle comes
    around.
