BOM display with multiple configurations

Discussion in 'SolidWorks' started by Craig Schultz, Nov 1, 2004.

  1. How do I get the "QTY" column to just say "QTY" in a BOM if there are
multiple configs to an assembly? I just have parts hidden for
different explode views, so it's the same BOM for each config. The
top cell for QTY reads something like "explode1/QTY", I want to get
rid of explode1 in that cell.

If I edit the cell, it stays put at QTY until there is a rebuild, then
magic presto, the stupid 'explode1' comes back. How do I fix this?

    I'm sure it's something simple......

    Thanks for the help

I think it depends where you change the value. If you change it in the
Column Properties Title box, the value will revert to config/QTY, but if
you dbl click in the cell, and just edit it right on the screen, the value
appears to remain changed, even if you change other things in the BOM.

Try also double clicking the cell -- removing the unwanted text -- add a space before the QTY. This will appear to solidworks as a new header instead of the standard header. A custom header will not be updated to the config name as it assumes you have typed something custom in. The space seems to always work for me. I have tried to save that as a standard template without any luck.

    I hope that helps

  4. Tried it both ways. If you rebuild, our release program does an
automatic CTRL+Q before printing documents, the stupid configuration
name comes back. You would figure that if you changed it in the
column properties box it would stick. No dice.

    Thanks for the suggestions.

Maybe it's your release program, cuz here, the new name survives, ctrlQ,
adding parts to the assy, editing table properties, etc. I'm using sp0.1

    1. Select the config you want to display.
    2. When the BOM is created, highlight the qty header field and change the
name to QTY (NO FULL STOP [period] after QTY). This will stop it changing.
    3. Re-size columns as required (QTY column can now be made narrower).
    4. RMB on BOM and save as template.
You will not have the problem again if you use this BOM template instead of
    the standard SW BOM template.
