bill of material problem

    In the bill of materials, the file name of the part is the part number. I
    have changed the file name of the part and hence the part number should
    change in the bill of material. It doesn't.

    I've deleted and reinstalled the part in the asssembly and it still doesn't
    update. It appears that the part has some property associated that I cannot
    purge.

    Help is appreciated!

    I found the problem. The part was downloaded from McMaster Carr. The "Part
    number displayed when used in bill of materials:" was set to
    "configuration".
