Being able to select insertion point of block

I was wondering if it was possible to be able to select the base point of a block during insertion? I have a palette of blocks and currently they ask for scale and rotation, but I would really like to select a new base point on the block, then place in drawing, then scale and rotate. Is this possible?

    Hmm,
How you going to 'pick' that point (on the block), unless you
already have inserted it (so you can see what to pick) ?
Better to just insert the block, and 'move' 'last' @, pick new
    point.

I was thinking more along the lines of mult-view blocks - where you can use the ctrl key to cycle through different insertion points while inserting. I thought by adding points on the block on the defpoints layer would allow me to cycle through insertion points.

  4. You cannot do that with normal blocks in vanilla AutoCAD.
