My client (my father) thinks there may be cost savings by running AutoCAD in
    a network environment.

His small office consists of 4 users. We guesstimate only 2 user would be
running AutoCAD at any one time. I gather from these posts, the technology
used is the Network License Manager.

A few basic questions to start with:

What are the typical costs (UK £Stg) for implementing this?

Must all clients be running the same version of AutoCAD?

What if one client is a laptop user, can he use the program offline (ie from
home) without authentication by the server.

    Many thanks for any help.

The short answer is yes, it will save money over the full install of 4
    systems!
The licenses have to be converted over to a network license pool, the cost
is minimal, roughly $100 US (depends on your pricing group)
With 2004 you can check a license out and the notebook user can operate
standalone. When they return the can check the license back in! With 2002
you can use the program at home if you can connect to the license server
(over the net or possibly modem) to validate the license
