batch plot layer

I have a system in which i use the Batch Plot Util (BPU) to plot 1 drawing about 40 to 60 times with different layers turned on and off each time. (each layer consists of 20 lines at most so its unworkable to create 40 drawings with 20 lines. Especially since i have to swich between layers constantly.

I'n the BPU in R14 you could turn on and off layers of a inserted drawing from within Acad itself. You started up the BPU, inserted a drawing, which was displayed in the Acad window and switched to the Acad prog to turn on and off layers. The you switched to te BPU and pressed refresh. Acad showed the drawing it should be plotting. By this way you could check wether you had turned on the correct layers ( very important when you have to turn on 10 out of 400 layers in 1 drawing). In the PUBLISH function this isn't possible at all. In the "new" BPU the drawing in the Acad window wont refresh so i cant see which layers are turned on. Or am i missing something?

I thought i found the sokution within Acad by means of the "layere state manager". But this doesnt help me in the BPU. If it was possible to turn on a layerstate for each batchplot, it would be great.

Also, now its possible to use a space in the layer name. But then the BPU doesnt recignise the layername and displays a 0 in the layerlist. Or am i missing something again?

And my final question / frustration is that the list of layers in the BPU wont sort by layername. In acad R14 i had to change the maz nr. of "layers/items" from 200 (standard) to 500 to make the old "BPU" sort the names. This option has, for as far as i have seen, disappeared. Is it possible to make the "new" BPU sort by layername?

I hope someone can help me cause I AM STUCK
