Background Masks & Plotting

Discussion in 'AutoCAD' started by Lisa Pohlmeyer, Feb 21, 2005.

  1. I apologize up front for the cross posting, but this seems to be an
issue in both places that I haven't see a resolution for....

We'd like to use the background mask feature for both Mtext &
dimensions, but when we plot it appears that the mask has no effect.
None of the linework behind the text is "hidden". We've tried using a
solid instead of the "background fill". We've also tried using "lines
overwrite" instead of "lines merge" with no resolution.

Also, when these background masks are used in the dwg, when a user using
an earlier version plots, they get a solid box. I haven't seen an
    object enabler for this....

    Autodesk?

  2. Dean,
I thought since Mtext is an object, and that background mask is a
feature of Mtext, and it could be handled by an object enabler.

We do not save back to an earlier version, but I tried to set it to an
earlier version, then setting it back, no luck.

I'll post a sample file to the customer file area. The print preview
looks as it should, but the actual output doesn't appear to have the
    background mask applied.

As to the peer support, I apologize, I thought Autodesk monitored these
groups occassionally. I have support from them available, but most of
the time, they haven't been able to help. I get more support here.
Just thought one of their folks would have a solution. Often when I
open a support issue with them, it depends on the individual's knowledge
and ability to research their database. I often get passed from one
support tech to another for weeks, with no resolution.

Anyway, I'll post a file. Any help would be appreciated.

Is "Lines Merge" turned on in your plot driver?

  4. Like I said in my original post, we've tried both ways, lines merge &
lines overwrite, the same result either way.
    Thanks

Sorry, I should have read the whole thing first.

I know the background mask does not work with Lines Merge turned on. At
least here using a HP750C plot driver to make HPGL/2 plot files that are
sent to an OCE TDS800. We created another setup with Lines Merge turned
off, and the background mask works fine.

The problem is, we need "Lines Merge" turned on 95% of the time.

I plotted your demo file, and it came out fine. The background mask
worked as it should.. not shure what you are having problems with it.

  7. Do you have a 1050C plotter? If so, do you know what the firmware
version is? We have decided to upgrade our firmware, and since there's
no downloadable upgrade for this plotter, we purchased the upgrade for
one of our plotters. If this works, we'll do the other.

    Thanks for trying it...

    No. we have 3 sharp printers/copiers (AR-507, AR-c260p and AR-M237), 2
    lasers (5000/9000) and 2 oce's (9300/tds600).
