I am posting this here AND in the 2005 group since the solution could be
    found in either spot..

We use background mask on our text/dims.. it works great.. the problem
comes when we plot. The mask leaves a "dotted" background behind the
text/dims and I can't seem to get rid of it. It does it for all our
printers/plotters (sharp, HP, oce) so I don't think it is the
    printer/plotter that is doing it.

I need a solution soon.. or we may have to ax background mask.. and
return to suck-... textmask (at least that I could solve).

    FYI, we use "background fill".

TEXTMASK is a command from the Express Tools menu. Check the settings for TEXTMASK. You may want to try the Soild option.

Also check the options for WIPEOUT. Even though you may not be using a WIPEOUT object for your text, try turning the WIPEOUT frames off.
