Back from SWW Vegas

Discussion in 'SolidWorks' started by Rob Rodriguez, Jan 29, 2006.

  1. Just wanted to say hi to all the members of CompCAD I met at SWW, Zander,
Jerry, Wayne and SoCal Mike, Ed, Matt. I was able to talk with some of you
more than others but it was nice to place a face with the name.

This was my third and I would have to say my best SWW. I had a couple of
complaints, lunches could have been better and the partner pavilion was too
    far away.

I gave a couple of presentations that were well attended. One was a
PhotoWorks presentation and the other a drawing automation presentation.
I'll have these available for download at my website sometime this week.
I'll post the link once its there.

Just wanted to say hi and I can't wait for next year in New Orleans!

    Rob,

It was nice meeting and chatting with you in Vegas. Congrats on the
award, and I look forward to checking out those presentations for
possible use at one of our groups future meetings.

This was my first SWW since 2001, and my first reaction was that it was
so immense. The first general session on Monday had a huge crowd. One
of the highlights for me was to meet so many people I have known only in
type or people I have lost track of many years back. Newsgroup folk I
met included Paul Kellner, Jerry Steiger, Rob Rodriguez, Richard Doyle,
Marie Planchard, John Picinich, Ed E, Wayne T, Bob Hanson, Lenny
Kikstra, Mike Puckett (SoCalMike), and many SW employees too. Many
people also came up to me and introduced themselves as lurkers on this
    ng.

There were something like 130 technical sessions. Of those, I saw fewer
than 10, 3 being sessions that I had to present. I'm planning to spend
a lot of time going through the presentation content CD once it arrives,
mining for golden nuggets. For anyone who attended my Advanced Tips
presentation, the lantern model that was asked for has been uploaded to
the SW Parts area of my website (http://mysite.verizon.net/mjlombard)

Anyway, thanks to all SW employees and civilians who contributed to SWW
this year. Very much worth the time for me. I have had at least 4
requests for work from contacts I made or renewed at the conference,
which will more than make up for the time away from the office and the
    cost of the event.

  4. Hello Rob-

Thanks for a great PhotoWorks presentation. I learned more about PhotoWorks
in your 1 hour presentation than I have learned in the previous 3 1/2 years.

Your Drawing class was also fantastic.

    Best Regards,

Matt, you just reitterated what is now limiting the SolidWorks World
meeting, and it is one I have spoken to some of the SolidWorks execs at
their booth, when I visited the show floor on my one day of a quick
    visit.

Maybe 1% of SolidWorks users at the most can visit the conference. As
you noted, you saw less than 10% of the sessions. That is probably
far, far less than you would have wanted to see, so even the 1% making
it to the conference saw far less than they likely wanted to from the
    sessions.

99% of SolidWorks users can NEVER see the show or the sessions, though
some presenters are generous to put up the contents of their
presentations (& a hearty thanks to you all for that).

I think the day of simultaneous (or delayed) pay for view Internet
attendance at major conferences like SolidWorks world is a big
potential market for both learning on the users parts, and advertising
on the part of the SolidWorks partners.

There is NO other way to let allo users reach more content and
exhibitors reach more customers than to put up a virtual conferences,
and I think we should make this point to our VARs and SolidWorks
    corporate directly.
