Automatic Plotter Selection

Discussion in 'AutoCAD' started by mark_robert_smith, Mar 2, 2004.

  1. Good afternoon.
My company has a number of plotters in various departments around the company. A great deal of time is spent changing the plotter before plotting. Is there a way to designate a default plotter to a particular computer, so the following will occur:

    1) When a drawing is called up on a particular computer, in a particular department, that department's plotter will be attached to that drawing automatically.

    2) When the same drawing is called up in another department, the plotter changes automatically to the plotter of that department.

    Thank you,
    Mark Smith

This is maybe a solution if all your plotters a about the same plotters. (all HP DesignJets or so.)
-> on each AutoCAD machine, configure the local plotter using ADI or HDI devices. On all machines call this plotter "PLOTTER" and place it on LPT3
-> let the logiin scripts decide whitch queue is mapped using Net USE LPT3 \\SERVER\PRINTQUEUE

Other way of working, for ACAD2000or higher:
Make 1 template with several Layouts. Each layout is completely set up for 1 plotter, sio you get as many layout as you got plotters.
When end-user wnats to plot, he has to make an new layout, from template, and all settings are there. Copy+Paste everything from the exisitng Layout to the new layout and done...

    Thank you for the reply.
    That certainly is an option.
I was not aware that one could attach a different printer to each layout.
