    Hi,

I recently got hired for a firm which uses microstation. I am trying to
figure out how to use this program. Unless I am missing something this
software is extremly slow, and everything is subpar to that of AutoCAD. Are
there any programs which will change microstations commands to that of
    AutoCAD?

    Thanks
    Chris

No offense, but how did you get hired if you don't know how to use the
software? Did they hire you to run Microstation based on your AutoCAD
knowledge? Is your firm going to offer training? Do they care that you
are stumbling through the software, burning billable time?

After answering some of those questions, you might want to step back and
take a look at your new employer and consider whether you want to
    continue there....

AFAIK, there are no AutoCAD emulators for Microstation.

Microstation users say that about Autocad. Solidworks users say that about
Inventor. It's all a matter of getting used to it.

    Hi,
There is very little CAD work in my position.

Did they hire you to run Microstation based on your AutoCAD
    Exactly so.

Is your firm going to offer training?

Not anything formal. I'm going through user guides and such.

    Do they care that you
They said I would get used to it and few people have any formal training in
    microstation at this particular office.
The experience is well worth fumbling around with new software.
    Thanks

  6. a bit of patience and you'll soon get the hang of it... once you can use one
cad package well its generally just a case of getting used to the different
interface - usually the methodology is the same. The hardest bit I found to
get used to with Microstation was the 3D side of it...

Yes you are missing a lot (sorry): the knowledge of how to work with
    microstation.
But obviously you are not the only one in your new firm ...

Don't try to use the middle mouse button for panning the view, it's reserved
for other purposes like snapping to elements (I know, this is hard to
    believe for all autocad users).

BTW: are you working with microstation V8 or pre-V8?
    If V8,
    - some things are similar to autocad like layers etc.
    - you can work on autocad drawing files without conversion
    - you can use autocad commands (see online help).

Microstation is more powerful than autocad, so there is more to learn,
    that's it.

  8. Not this one. Everyone I know uses the middle button for snapping.

Hi, you don't know me but... :) I use Ctrl-Right click for osnaps and Ctrl
is programmed on my #2 mouse button. Have been doing it that way since
    before wheelies were invented ...

Ah an interesting tidbit of info!

    Ha...thanks

I wrote that post after only playing around with a drawing for 10 minutes.
I played with it for another half an hour today and I think I'm starting to
    get the hang of it

  14. I haven't used it in a while myself, but Microstation is a powerful
program. But a beast of a program at the same time. Takes a lot of power to
    run it right.

    Thanks,

By now I'm used to it...but I must say this is just a cheap and porely
thought out version of ACAD. The largest deficiency I find is the lack of
the command prompt. Some may say it is more powerful that ACAD but I would
wager I can draw circles (no pun intended) around someone using Microstation
even with my "inferior" AutoCAD 2005...
