AutoCAD TIP: Rapid Circles

  1. (my settings or comments are in between parenthsis)

Get a good running OSNAP setting (OSMODE 3, ENDpoint + MIDpoint) for this
    simple demonstration.

    Draw a rectangle (0,0, 6,3)
Zoom Extents (double-click on mouse wheel)
ZOOM .75xp (just to see better)
    CIRCLERAD 0.5
CIRCLE... and do not hit the spacebar or enter (command alias C) and then
simply hold down the spacebar (repeats the Circle command, prompting for
Center) now get near the rectangle, when you see a osnap marker light up
select (left-click)... yes while holding down the spacebar (or enter key).

If you miss, simply select the offending circle, select the center grip
(make it hot) and then move (grip edit stretch, but stretching a circle's
center actually moves) to the right spot.

    BONUS TIP:

Hold down the DEL key (or issue ERASE, command alias E and lean on the
spacebar) and pick objects to delete... badda-bing!

Extra Bonus TIP: This works with POINTS (command alias PO)...
What else is this useful for?
    What are the pros/cons?

UNDO and then lean on the spacebar?
I leave it a matter of further debate as to this being a pro or a con.

IIRC, in R12, there was a little 'bonus' demo that came that did 'Rapid
    Craters'
    No spacebar involved, though.

  4. Actually one of the features I liked about R12 was when you used a pulldown
menu (and had to cascade to a selection), if you simply double-clicked on
the pulldown menu Title it would repeat that selection. (Draw > Circle >
Tan, Tan, Tan) and the specific option selected without having to re-cascade
    to it again.

  5. At least with 2004 & 2005 we now have multiple REDOs (as long as the U key
was all you were sitting on) <g>

Tracy, that double-clicking to repeat an operation with all of its options would be so helpful for AutoCAD to add that feature back into the next AutoCAD version.
We found that the cascading pull-downs took a lot of repetitive operations. So, we wrote lisps. That double click on the menu would be even faster than our lips. Let me illustrate.
In order to draw a 2-point circle, one must first move the mouse to Draw, select, move to Circle, select, move to 2-point, select. Counting the moving of the mouse, that make 6 operations, which would have to be repeated for each circle. Now, I do realize that one doesn't have to select Circle to get the options, a mere delay will bring up their display, but a pause is no faster than a select. Our lisp for a 2-point circle is "C2P" which is 4 operations (including the enter).
So, adding that double click back would make a repetitive operation a mere 2 operations versus 6. That save 2/3s the time.
Let's hope AutoCAD is reading this. Read Ya Later -KLYPH

I agree, it was a great feature. But it's not Windows-compliant, so it seems
pretty unlikely that AutoCAD would incorporate it. Unless the next version
    of Windows did, of course!

Drop the alias down to either C2 or 2C. That will save one key stroke and
keep it all on the left hand side of the keyboard. Helpful if you're a
    righty on the pointing device.
