AutoCAD TIP: Getting a grip II

Discussion in 'AutoCAD' started by Tracy W. Lincoln, Nov 14, 2004.

  1. THE TIP: A Variable Rotation & Copy using Grips

Start a new drawing. Draw one vertical line. Select that line (the grips are
cold, the line is highlighted). Select one of the end grips (makes it
    hot)...

Right-click and select Copy (or simply type in C[enter])

Simply type in a rotation angle... like 15[enter] 20[enter] 35[enter] this
is a rotation and copy all in one command, but at whatever angle you desire.

    BONUS TIP...

Do the same as above but now try a smaller angle like 12... now while the
grip is still hot, hold he shift key down and notice that your cursor will
be snapping in 12 degree increments. You can change the angle and then
reuse the shift key and the cursor will snap to the new increment.

Also remember the Base Point can also be changed by typing in by
Right-clicking and selecting Basepoint (or typing in B[enter]) and then
    selecting a new basepoint.

  3. You missed a step, Tracy...
One must also execute the rotate command in conjunction with the copy
    command for this to work.
    Best regards...

That bonus is awesome. I don't know what I'd use it for yet but I'm sure
that one day a lightbulb will go on and I'll save a ton of time.

  8. The rotation does not hve to be on the endpoint of a line... select the
middle grip, RO[enter]C[enter] pull away 90 or type 90... now you have a
cross, where both centerlines are equal in length.

Also remember that you can change the Base Point while in the middle of that
    Rotation/Copy...

Yes. I find that a great tool and have used it for crosses and other thing.
I'm fascinated by the fact that you can snap to multiples of an angle by
    holding down the shift key.

    Thanks again.
