if you install AutoCAD on a network, how many people can access the program simultaneously? Are there packages offered only so many seats on a nework? is the entire autocad program installed on a server with all the machines accessing it, or does autocad still need to be installed locally.

The # of people who can access it at the same time is controlled by the # of
seats you buy. While I believe the program can be installed on the server I
believe it is more common to install a deployment on each workstation. If
you buy 20 seats then 20 users can run the program at ones. The # of
deployments it unlimited. So theoretically you could have 100 deployment
with only 20 of them being used at one time.

hypothetically if i could use an online server like ftp maybe for filesharing and maybe even the entire program itself, my employed could access it and operate autocad via a network license from anywhere. soujnds like autocad can accomidate this.

The network licenses are pooled using FlexLM. FlexLM runs as a service on a
windows machine. (NT4, 2000, XP, not sure about 2003). The workstations
must be on the same subnet as the FlexLM license software.

If you use an XP compuer as your FlexLM server make sure you add all three
..exe files that FlexLM instalsl to your SP2 firewall exceptions tab.

Current version runs on Win 2000 and above. I've heard of troubles with
adding licenses to an existing file in 2003.
