Autocad Map & Large Maps

    Anyone have any suggestions for using Autocad Map 2006 and Large Maps.
    We are trying to create a provincial base map of roads, rivers etc but
    the huge amount of data is a problem. Xref seems too slow in
    maintaining the links when we extract a portion of the map.
    the answer I am looking for?

    Any opinions?
