    Hello,

I hope you guys can offer some advice.

I have been using Visual CADD for my once-every-couple-of-years home
construction projects, but the version I have is not compatible with Windows XP
which I just switched to. And I have a garden barn project ...

Rather than pay another $125 or so for an upgrade to this obsolete program I
decided to check eBay for available copies of AutoCad LT. It looks like they
will cost me more, but at least then I will have a mainstream program.

    1) Is Autocad LT 2002 the earliest (i.e., cheapest) version that will run on XP?

    2) How does this registration business work? I obviously don't want to buy
pirated software but people that appear to be selling legit software are careful
to say whether it has been registered or not. Does this mean there is an issue
with transferring registration or ??? The Autodesk website is not helpful on
    this topic.

    3) Is there a better choice of programs? My drawing is limited to home
remodeling projects like kitchen layouts, yard barns, etc.

    TIA,
    Mitty.

  2. Try Intellicad. Should work fine for your applications, it's cheaper
than LT, and there won't be any registration problem. Look here >>>

In a previous post Mitty says...
What makes you think Visualcadd is obsolete? I'm using Version 5.0.1
every day. A patch to version 5.0.2 is about to be issued.

I admit there are not millions of users like ACad, but there should be.
Visualcadd is so much more user friendly than ACad, and for anyone who
ever used Generic Cadd, you would be able to learn Visualcadd in about
    an hour.

VC5 runs perfectly fine on any version of Windows, including XP. It
make very small demands on system resources. I have it on an old PII-
166 laptop with 3Gb HD and 128 Mb RAM, and it runs just fine.

I use LT 2000 at home on XP. I also use LT-Extender [about $100] to
add much of the functionality of the full version of AutoCAD.

I can also second the recommentation for IntelliCAD. However, the
version I used about 1 year ago some bugs with 3d editing that made it
    unusable for me.
