I have attempted to install Autocad LT 2005 on my Windows XP
professional machine and have, to date, no success performing any
drawing commands. It keeps crashing with either a "!laymgr.cpp@985:
elockviolation" or "FATAL ERROR: Unhandled access violation reading
0x0da4 at 36007973h" error. I have Autocad LT 2000i and have never had
this problem before, though it's running on an older machine.
Technical support had me do a complete uninstall and reinstall via a
clean boot with the same problems coming back. I then went through and
made sure I had the latest drivers for all of my system devices,
display, mouse, printer... and reinstalled again, no luck.
I believe LT is installed OK, just that it doesn't like something
on my system. I have done a complete virus scan and used various
programs to probe my system for spyware etc.... No luck. The system
I'm using is a Dell, 2.4 Ghz Pentium 4, with 512 MB of memory and lots
    of hard drive space.
Has anyone ever ran into this?

    Do you use Norton's Utilities?
I had problems with ADT2005 after Norton's performed a registry scan.

I have ran both Norton Utilities 2005/2004 and Acad 2005 and 2005LT and
have had no such problems. Try formatting and starting from scratch, if
thats a viable option. Also you could try updating all your drivers, I
would say the video card would be most likely to cause crashes. Or just go
and 'buy' Win2000 and install that.

    Good Luck

The Norton thing may be an issure just with ADT then. If I allow Norton to
scan my registry, a dll file (I can't locate the dll file name right now - I
have it somewhere) will be removed and I lose all AEC functions. Autodesk
recognizes the problem but has not yet addressed it other than to say the
workaround they have come up with makes ADT very unstable.

I'm running Norton Antivirus and Network security. I have tried
disabling them with no luck.. Thanks

I don't want to format. I'm beginning to suspect the video card as you suggest..
