    Folks,

Anyone have recommendations for a notebook computer that can run AutoCad
quite capably? I know nothing 'about Autocad -- just helping out a
    friend in buying a notebook.

    From what I've gathered:
    min RAM = 512 MB
Video Memory = 64 MB (128 MB preferably)

Started looking at entry-level notebooks (eg Dell Inspiron 1000 for
$700) but doesn't look like it will cut it. What's the minimum I should
    be looking to spend?

    thanks,
    Tony

I'd also recommend a notebook with a P4 CPU as well. My boss has a 1.7
    mobile processor running 2005. I have a dell 9100 with a 3.2 p4 cpu
and it runs circles around the mobile.

If your trying to do it on the cheap it is possible.
I have an old dell PII that still runs windows 95 operating system and
    loaded my AutoCAD 2000
on it. It obviously runs slower than my desktop pc, but other than that I
    have had no issues.
Disclaimer...I have no experience with newer versions of AutoCAD, so that
may be a factor for you.
