Assign Materials by Layer

    Is there a way to write a VBA which I can run on a batch of
    files which will permit me to assign specific materials to the layers based
    on the layer names? If it's not possible I'd rather know now than find out
    after
    spending time trying... And, secondarily, is there a way to assign a
    material using the
    Command Line which doesn't require utilizing dialog boxes?
