Area Hatch on 2005...

Discussion in 'SolidWorks' started by Scott MacIntyre, Nov 30, 2004.

  1. We rolled out 2005 2 weeks ago, so this might have been brought up before,
    and if so, forgive me.

....but, did SW remove some of the functionality of the area hatch feature?
I use it occasionally when I need to shade something (usually in dots) in a
drawing. (ie, surfaces to be painted, letters, etc, especially in isometric
    views)

Now when I go to hatch, I'm being told I can only apply hatch to planar
surfaces. Can I no longer apply hatching to curved surfaces??? That would
really suck. I expect improvements on new releases, not loss of functions
already in there!!! Anybody know what's up or is it me?

    Thanks,
    Scott

Didn't you read the What's Out with 2005 booklet that came in the box?
    :)

  3. Ha - You know, you made me go into the What's new book in the box, thinking
that I missed something from the "Duh - look here first before asking",
    section.....until I re-read your response....Guess I'm a little slow today.
Just glad I didn't ask my boss why I didn't get a "what's out" booklet with
    my upgrade.... :)

  4. You could try using the boundary setting in the hatch command this may get
you around your issue. I don't believe SW has ever been able to hatch
curved surfaces. I slight curve yes but it has always had issues with
cylinders and such. Another work around is to select the surface and
convert the entities in a drawing. Once converted, you should have a closed
area the hatch can be applied too.

  5. The suggested work around worked nicely...Never thought to do
    that.....Thanks!
