Arctext command not exploding correctly

I am trying to use Express Tools ARCTEXT command to create large header text
above and below a circle. Not a problem I thought and it seemed to work --
except when I came to plot on my Hp 5500. Despite previewing okay the
plotter didn't plot this header text.
Okay, since I have evidence to suggest that it will plot okay if I first
Explode this ARCTEXT, I tried that. Not a problem on the ArcText above the
circle. But on the ArcText below, the Explode operation mirrored the text
to be unreadable except if you're standing on your head and have a mirror in
    your hand.
The ARCTEXT dialog box presents all kinds of options for creating the text
and I think I've tried them all preliminary to exploding but they all
    explode backward.
I'm at a loss for options except using standard AutoCAD text, making (and
aligning and rotating) each letter of this phrase one letter at a time.
