Not the HP5500 large format printer. This is an 11X17 color laser jet.
Ours should be here tomorrow. Any problems with it?

    Thanks

  2. No, we are using the HP4600.
The drivers created havoc on our network.
    Real shit.
We were using an HP1050c, HP5000, HP5100, HP4050 and an Lj-III with no
    problems.
Adding the HP4600 and removing the Lj-III did it.
20-30 times a day the spooler got kicked out and needed to be restarted.
Now we had to redirect everyone to print directly to the jetdirectcard
    instead of over the spooler.

    Sofar it works.
In the "old-" days i just created 3 printers (tray-1, tray-2, tray-3) with
each printer representing a paper tray in the corresponding printer, worked
    fine.
Now we need to select the papertrays everytime when we want to print.

    Help from HP?
Don't make me laugh, calling them gives you: try this, try that, try thus,
this works - ok - it's a microsoft problem. Goodbye.

That microsoft is a problem we all know, but that an entire network falls
over when a printer is added is not microsoft's problem.

    My point on this:
be very carefully on installing this thing.
be sure to backup your network system, than add the drivers.

Hope you have better luck with the HP5500 as we with the HP4600.

    Todd,

We purchased a 5500DTN just over a year ago and it's been working like a trooper ever since, not a problem at all with the unit. The only complaint I have about the unit is that toner will sometimes leak from the cartridges and leave a small mess when changing them, but, it's not a huge issue.

Can I ask which "flavor" of printer you purchased, i.e. the 5500n, 5500dtn, etc.? We purchased the DTN model to get the additional paper tray and duplexing option and the one thing I would definitely recommend getting is the optional hard disk. By doing that, we can bypass having to use a separate/dedicated print server and send jobs directly to the printer, which handles all the print processing just fine.

I configured our unit with it's own static ip address and use HP's install network printer wizard to setup the printer on each workstation. Works great, print jobs process "fairly" quickly, and everyone's happy with the unit. Like the old saying goes, If momma's happy, EVERYBODY'S happy!

Good luck with your new unit.
