Considering a Spaceball 4000FLX (Spacepilot too$$$). Are there any
    issues using it with 2007?

    Thanks,
    Rob

    I've used the 4000 FX & 5000FX serial & 5000 USB & Spacepilot with 2007
without any problems. Its with 2008 that you have to use the old 2.8
driver with the newest Solidworks controller addin for the serial
models. 3DConnexion no longer will support the serial devices.

    J,

2008 isn't out yet. It remains to be seen whether 3D Connexion will
make their 2008 SW driver work with older models and the serial port.
I run 2007 most of the time. And the 3003 Spaceball is serial. I don't
update drivers except when the one I am using doesn't work.

The nature of Spaceball software is that there is a generic driver/
service that is common to all applications and then for some
applications there is also a specific driver. So it isn't clear why it
won't work with different SW drivers if the Spaceball generic driver/
    service will.

I have found that aside from SW, a Spaceball will work from most
other software without an application specific driver. FEMAP is one
such program. I think eDrawings is another. One nice thing about
eDrawings and the Spaceball is that it will take advantage even when
eDrawings is used by other programs. Thus when I show eDrawing
previews in dbWorks standalone the Spaceball will still manipulate the
    model.

Yeah I know but beta is. There is an issue with the serial devices. You
have to use the last serial version and then use the latest Solidworks
driver. It does work but for how long is anyones guess and 3dConnexion
WILL NOT support the serial devices any longer. I've already tried it.
