Looking for the latest version of DwgThumbnail.ocx. Apparently it is free to distribute but you need access to the ADN website.

Would a kind ADN member please post the file in the customer files newsgroup.

    Thank you

  2. Hi,

People who pay their money to join ADN - expect amongst other things to gain
a competitive advantage from that membership - ie access to things like
    DwgThumbnail.OCX.

I, for one, would not be willing to comply with this request.

No one will post the file for you as the ADN site is not free.
You can always apply for ADN status and pay the fees.

Why doesn't Autodesk provide a free trial of ADN without
any downloading? Even a script kiddie like me could write
the code in less than an afternoon.

Why give something away that people will pay for?
They seem to be doing fine without offering a trial...

  7. Then the OP can expect a response from you with an attached OCX by morning?

  8. Hi Clinton,

Why not prove your contention and post the code and DLL here for all of us ?
Set an example for the corporation.

Laurie and Tracy - those type of responses are not helpful or very community minded. This is not a competition and I am not going to pay $600 for a tiny unsupported OCX file.

That file has been provided many times for free (on this website). Once it is out there and people are depending on it then it should continue to be provided.

They are legally bound, they can't be community minded in this case. If it
was there before, things change. That's why I don't come to depend on freebe
stuff I don't write, unless I can get the source code, such as the code that
    Paul mentioned at CadVault.

    Exactly.
Incorporating excellent products such as ObjectDCL and DosLib could cause problems down the road if said product development is stopped and the source code is not released. (Not trying to pick on these two products, but they seem to be very popular).

Well I still have version 1.9 that works ok. This ocx has been out for a number of years and occasionally even Autodesk employees have posted it and said that it was freely available. It just bugs me when they keep changing their minds. Its not worth any money but it is useful.

  13. Hi,

You'll have to judge for yourself if we are "community minded" As I look at
the names of those who have responded to your question I would say their
contributions to this group outweigh the help they get from it by a factor
    of at least 10

  14. You'll have to judge for yourself if we are "community minded" As I look
I don't believe that is so.

Many here may post much more than others
but most of us benefit (in many ways) from reading
    what's posted here.

To stirr things up a bit...let's take Lauries posts
(nothing personal, could have been anybody else
but Laurie might be a good example)

My database says that Laurie has posted 408 messages
to this NG alone, and about 6% of those were
asking for help, the rest were replies to those
same messages (about 20%) and the rest
were replies to someone elses messages.
    That's a total of 26%

So, about 75% of the total posted were replies
    helping other people.
That is not a 10 to 1 ratio

And like I said before, all of us benefit just
by reading all the posting in here.

  15. Hi Jorge,

Just to defend myself, of the NGs I work in, this is the one where I have
the highest level of ignorance. The names in the response group to which I
referred included people who had gone out of their way to help me.

If I took a little licence by not doing a statistical analysis it was to
make a point. I don't think your analysis is a valid one, but lets not
    raise another can of worms.

Lastly we do learn from reading most of the things here, even if it is only
about the character and knowledge level of the poster.

    Yes, you are correct sir.

Just like I said: >> but most of us benefit (in many ways) from reading

  17. Hi Laurie,
The interesting thing about the statistics are if you converted Jorge's percentage to a ratio it would be that you are giving 3 times as much help thus making you look like you were grossly exagerating. On the other hand if you converted your ratio to a percentage it would be 90% which isn't too far off.

I agree that there are quite a few people here that put in a lot more in the way of QUALITY help than they would seem to get out. I wouldn't mind seeing my own figures as I probably post more responces to other peoples posts than my own. But I think I have probably taken more from this group from the quality respondees responces to other peoples posts.

Have a good day - Nathan

So can you freely send this DwgThumbnail.ocx to anybody or not? I've not kept up with the lastest legality end of things.

  19. Here are my two cents.

Fore a period, DwgThumbnail.ocx was installed by AutoCAD... But Autodesk
stopped bundling it with AutoCAD at some time, I think it was with 2002. If
there is an alternative, I would go for it for these reasons:

    - the old one may not work with 2004 DWG format
    - I remember there were a few glitches with the control, like repaint
    problem in the IDE

Since Autodesk does not seem to distribute it anymore, go with a properly
    supported replacement.
