ANSI text height for 'A' size drawing

I am trying to find out if anyone knows if there is an ANSI requirement for text and dimension height on 'A' size (8 1/2 x 11) drawings. I am putting together a series of 'book-form' drawings (multi-sheet 'A' size) that will be kept in a 3 ring binder.

Any help or examples would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    PG

ANSI states tex height to be 1/8". Doesn't make any difference what the size of the dwg is, i.e., 8 1/2x11, B-11x17, etc, when any dwg is plotted, text height to be 1/8" per ANSI.

    Hi PG,

I don't know about ANSI, I'd just go for legibility and uniformity. If you are talking about full scale on the 'A' size, then 1/8" would be a good rule of thumb. If half scale, then 1/4", etc. GL

Thanks for the reply regarding the ANSI requirement of 1/8" regardless of plot size. I believe we used .156 at Boeing regardless of plot size but I wasn't sure if that was an ANSI standard or if it was just a Boeing standard.

    Thanks again,

Does anybody know of a website listing ANSI standards like this. Could use a good reference site.

Many companies have their own ideas of the size of text height. I worked for Exxon at one time and they used 3/16. Still, regardless ANSI states 1/8" and Single Stroke Gothic (which romans fonts most closely matches).

I don't know of a web site, but each year that I teach basic drafting, the textbook states 1/8".

When you start changing scales, then you should change dimscale accordingly and the text will still be plotted 1/8" - dimscale affects ONLY dimension text height and size of arrowheads.

If you mean a site that has copies of the ANSI standards, no. They are copyrighted and ANSI will jump on anyone publishing them.
    Go to the following link:
    http://www.ansi.org/
You can buy the entire ANSI Y14 standards there.

Oddly enough, North American versions of ACAD, upon first use, default the text size to
..18. I would have figured Autodesk would have used the ANSI 1/8" standard height.

    oh well..
