how easy is it to paste 2006 stuff into 3dsmax for animation?
or is there a simpler way directly in 2006 maybe a plugin?

3ds max can open a dwg. I'm not sure how much back and forth workflow max 7
    allows.

3DSMAX works with non-solid meshes. While VIZ is more suited towards
AutoCAD integration, any DWG or DWF or DXF imported gets transformed
    back into splines or meshes.

From experience, I've usually had to do some cleanup on meshes
(smoothing groups, optimize geometry, weld, etc) and I now use STL
instead as I can control the mesh tesselation with FACETRES more
accurately. Otherwise turn off most import options and weld, smooth,
    etc, manually.

Otherwise, for animations and such you still need a good grounding in
keyframed animation and using camera paths for walkthroughs and such.
AutoCAD still doesn't have any sort of animation capabilities. The only
thing is that you might want to create you path spline in ACAD instead
    of MAX.
