I have decided to try solidworks after years of using SolidEdge for
years and found the 2008 version as an iso image download torrent. It
installed fine and opens as a 30 day trial. I open a new part file,
apply sketches and features but it will not save. It closes the
program then give a message that 'an error has occured and solidworks
must restart'. Any ideas on this?

i am having a failed to save problem that sounds similar to this. it
is not good and we have lost 50+ hours due to this problem. still
cannot get VAR to give me a SPR on it. they say they want a smoking
gun before they submit to SWx for SPR. it is random when we see it on
large file sets or when we are on computer for hours. try reboot and
model again and see if you can get repeatability. i am not having a
saving issue at home testing computer. and i am still running under
    temp license also.

of note: Windows XP home is not allowing me to activate, installs and
runs just fine just will not allow activation. still working this
    issue. iQ
